Limnanthes alba, White Meadowfoam
Limnanthes alba, White Meadowfoam
We are excited to have a source again for this dynamic species! An early spring blooming, white-flowered annual from the Central Valley, northern California, and Oregon. Historically a bountiful meadow flower, it is beautiful, vigorous, adaptable, and economically valuable for its uniquely stable oil. Pure white blossoms with downy grey-green leaves usually under 1' tall and equally wide are sought after by bees and other pollinators, while the oil made from the seed is used in the cosmetic trade. It is found in the wild near, but does not require, vernal ponds and seeps.
