Hordeum brachyantherum, CA Meadow Barley
Hordeum brachyantherum
Tufted vase-like perennial grass growing 1' to 30" tall in many parts of California, in a wide range of situations, from mountain meadows to freshwater wetlands, tidal marshes, along creeks and rivers, and along sloping roadsides, where it thrives on extra water. Because of its vigor and ability to grow in many different kinds of soil, it is often used in restoration and revegetation. It is one of the components of our California Native Grass Erosion Mix.
Surprisingly, we found it growing on a serpentine grassland, where it flowed down a gentle slope, interspersed with purple-eyed grass, Sisyrinchium bellum.
Seeding rate: 10 lbs/acre
