Using materials of the earth like charcoal and ocher, this series allows for grounding creative expression. Attendees will learn to process CA native plant material like cucumber root and oak galls for ink, make quills from found feathers, and brushes from soap plant. Participants are welcome to paint large format (for maximum coverage and effect) if they choose. We will explore a variety of techniques that lend themselves to these prized organic materials.
Day 1 - Soap Plant Brushes
- Materials: Soap plant fibers & glue from bulbs, waxed cotton, hazelnut stick
- Collect oak galls or blackberries + boil
- Add water to charcoal
- Make art using materials
Day 2 - Wild Cucumber Ink and Quills
- Dig cucumber roots + boil
- Feather quills
- Make Art using materials
