Potentilla anserina ssp. pacifica

This moisture-loving perennial has beautiful foliage, deep green compound leaves with silvery undersides, and attractive bright yellow flowers. The plant hugs the ground as it spreads through underground rhizomes and makes a good  groundcover if planted with other species that do not go dormant, or that go dormant at a different time of year. Jt is found in seasonal wetlands and moist meadows, where its long red stems create interesting patterns as the plant spreads.  It is seasonally dormant, disappearing by the end of summer, if not watered, then returning in early spring. It makes a good groundcover if planted with other species that go dormant at different times. We grow it with springbank clover, Trifolium wormskioldii.
The roots of this plant were a crucial part of the diet of Northwest coast native peoples, who farmed it in estuaries with springbank clover. Research on different uses of this plant is ongoing.

We sell it in bareroot bundles, with 4 plants per bundle. Available spring thru summer.
